Continuing the tradition of "environmental one-upsmanship," Vancouver has sought to outdo Beijing, going so far as to use recycled materials for medals and beetle-chewed wood for the skating center's roof. London, the host of the 2012 summer Olympics, has vowed to build a stadium out of scrap metal from weapons confiscated by police.
