EU's Barnier will launch charm offensive in London

Michel Barnier, the internal-market commissioner for the EU, will make his first trip to Britain since taking the post to calm tensions regarding financial regulation. Industry participants will appeal to Barnier to water down proposed rules, which critics said could damage the City's position as a global financial hub. Barnier's two-day visit will be followed by a second visit in about a month, during which he will meet with Shadow Chancellor George Osborne, Financial Services Authority Chairman Adair Turner and representatives from the private-equity and hedge fund industries.
