U.S. is holding back production boost in Alaska, lawmaker says

The federal government is making it difficult for companies to explore and produce oil in Alaska in the long term, said Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska. This is shown through the continued opposition to opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and plans to push back drilling on the National Petroleum Reserve. Though Murkowski vowed to continue to fight for more domestic oil output in Washington, D.C., she said Alaska must play its part to preserve the sector's viability there.
