U.S. is 1 of 3 countries not offering paid maternity leave for federal workers

Productivity is dampened and children are at greater health risk because of the lack of paid maternity leave for government workers in the U.S., research from Harvard and McGill universities found. The U.S., Papua New Guinea and Swaziland were the only countries out of 181 nations studied that don't provide such benefits for federal employees. "It's absurd that we don't have it," one expert says.
