Texas teachers hope to derail "instant teacher" plan

Texas teachers have launched a campaign urging the State Board of Education to reject a proposal to certify college graduates whose field of study was related to the subject they would teach and who could pass a state exam. Texas Association of School Boards spokesman Marty DeLeon said the temporarily credentialed teachers, who would receive two-year certificates, were preferable to substitutes with no background.
