Close look at GE Capital's assets cause for worry

With its triple-A rating and virtually no investment in U.S. residential debt, General Electric appears to be in a comfortable position to ride out the downturn. But a close look at the balance sheet of GE Capital reveals that it is heavily exposed to commercial real estate and foreign residential mortgages, both vulnerable to major losses in a prolonged recession.
