Commercial mortgage write-downs threaten Hartford, Principal

UBS said in a note to investors that the two major U.S. life insurance companies most likely to be forced to take large write-downs on commercial real estate are Hartford and Principal. The bank said the two companies' CMBS assets are rated lower than the average for U.S. life insurers.
