Chinese yuan gains strength against U.S. dollar

In Shanghai currency trading, China's yuan posted its biggest gain against the U.S. dollar since February 2009, the China Foreign Exchange Trade System said. The yuan rose to 6.8264 per dollar, an increase of 0.1%. "It is an obvious signal that the People's Bank of China may allow the yuan to appreciate in the first half of this year," said Zhou Mingjian, an analyst at Pacific Securities.
