Continental cuts 600 ticket agents, cites a boom in online reservations

For the second straight year, Continental Airlines is trimming the number of people it pays to make reservations. Company officials said Monday it would furlough some 600 ticket agents in April because more Americans are bypassing call centers and making reservations online. The furloughed workers will be offered severance packages and outplacement services.
