Diabetes risk is linked to weight gain in pregnancy

A three-year study of more than 1,100 pregnant women in the U.S. found women who exceeded weight gain recommendations were up to 50% more likely to develop gestational diabetes. The lead researcher said the findings highlight the need for health care professionals to advise patients about the risks of excessive weight gain during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester.
