Obama's proposal would extend Medicare tax to investment income

President Barack Obama's proposal for overhauling health care includes a provision that would extend the 2.9% Medicare tax to the investment income of taxpayers earning more than $200,000 for singles and $250,000 for couples. The Medicare tax has been assessed on wages or earned income only.
