UNEP: Suggested emission cuts fall short

Pledges by 60 countries after the Copenhagen summit to curb greenhouse-gas emissions are insufficient to limit global temperature increases to 2 degrees Celsius, according to modeling prepared by the United Nations Environment Programme. Scientists believe the 2-degree limit is necessary to avoid catastrophic climate-change effects. Countries should increase their proposed cuts, UNEP Executive Director Achim Steiner said.
