One of the two unions seeking to organize TSA screeners said Monday it is filing a petition to request an election. John Gage, president of the American Federation of Government Employees, said he hoped the petition would jump-start the collective bargaining process, even without a determination by the TSA administrator that screeners are eligible. "By settling the question of representation first, AFGE will be ready to begin negotiations as soon as the bargaining rights are established," Gage said. The National Treasury Employees Union also is organizing to represent some 40,000 transportation security officers.
