Hypnosis shows benefits for youths with chronic stomach problems

Sixty-eight percent of children and teens who were under gut-directed hypnotherapy remained free of abdominal pain five years later compared with 20% in the standard care group, a small study of 52 patients with stomach problems showed. Researchers also found that the hypnosis group fared better in other gut symptoms such as bloating and bowel disorders. The findings appear in the American Journal of Gastroenterology.
