Generic drugs being tested in $20M safety push by FDA

The FDA is testing generic drugs, which constitute nearly 80% of prescriptions in the U.S., as part of the first widespread safety and quality evaluation effort. Agency officials confirmed the $20 million testing program involving a dozen academic centers or more through 2017. This year's research will center on antidepressants, anti-seizure drugs, heart drugs, immunosuppressants and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder treatments.
