Publishers are greeting social media traffic with bigger ads

Content publishers including The New York Times and Gawker Media are increasing the number and size of display ads for traffic referred from social media. Ad tech firm 33Across is introducing a product that allows publishers to serve large, contextually relevant ads to visitors from social sites. These visitors "come in, see the page and leave," so the new units are designed for "reaching them when they come in," 33Across chief executive Eric Wheeler said.
