Costly drugs may see sales boost with new Medicare benefit

Drug makers will likely enjoy increased sales of their most expensive drugs when a Medicare drug benefit becomes available in 2006. Ninety-five percent of annual drug costs above $5,100 will be covered by the new program, meaning drugs like Amgen's Enbrel, a new treatment for rheumatoid arthritis that costs up to $1,100 monthly, will be within reach of qualifying seniors.
