Lawsuit targets eBay's bidding practices

A lawsuit filed by a Pennsylvania man in Santa Clara County Superior Court in California claims that eBay cheats consumers out of small amounts of money on auction transactions because of its policy of allowing some high bidders to raise their bids in order to trump any last-minute competitors. Company spokesman Hani Durzy said yesterday that eBay executives hadn't yet reviewed the lawsuit's specific claims, but added, "from what we have heard, it appears that the plaintiffs misunderstand the functionality of the eBay bidding system."
