Study: School programs effectively fight obesity

A Canadian study of 5,200 Grade 5 students found that children who had participated in a program promoting physical activity and healthy eating were less than half as likely to be overweight or obese as peers in schools offering only nutritious fare or nothing at all. Lead author Paul Veugelers says the research shows schools can play a key role in reducing childhood obesity and promoting healthy living.
