IT expert urges providers to get going on EHRs

Health care providers not using an electronic health records system should start the process of getting one this year to ensure they qualify in time for CMS incentive payments starting in 2011 under the economic stimulus law, Michael Mytych of Health Information Consulting in Wisconsin said. He said most providers are unaware of the time it takes to select, implement and begin using an EHR and the functions needed to meet the requirements.
