Medtronic works on light-based neural implant

Scientists at Medtronic are working on a prototype of an implant that uses light to alter neural activity in the brain. They plan to use the device to study how electrical stimulation relieves symptoms of Parkinson's and other brain disorders and then use the findings to enhance the performance of its electrical stimulation devices that already are on the market.
