Online buzz may be driving TV ratings increase

Blockbuster events such as awards shows, the Winter Olympics and the Super Bowl are drawing higher ratings than they have in years, a boost that some are attributing to the "online water-cooler conversation" taking place in real time. One out of seven viewers during the Games opening ceremonies and the Super Bowl were also online, Nielsen reports. "People want to have something to share," says NBC Universal's Alan Wurtzel.
