Before making an internal promotion permanent, employees at Progressive Medical are given the duties of the new position -- while keeping their current title -- to see if they do a good job, CEO David Bianconi says. "If they don't perform, the act of moving them back to where they were is much easier if you've never consecrated them with some title that says they own this domain," he says.
