Why Facebook's deluxe ad units are a big deal

Facebook is reportedly preparing to launch a line of premium ad units that could shake up conventional display-advertising models. The ads will be social by default, showing which of a user's friends have "liked" the advertiser in question, and will draw content directly from posts on brands' Facebook Pages rather than using custom advertising copy. "If the ads truly do deliver the results Facebook claims, that could mean the social network is slowly but surely finding the marketing holy grail of 'word of mouth' -- at scale," writes E.B. Boyd.
