Kan. schools chief backs common core amid opposition

The Common Core State Standards will better prepare students for college and the workplace by training them in "higher-level thinking," says Jana Shaver, Kansas State Board of Education chairwoman. In this interview, the former teacher counters arguments again the common core, saying the state participated in the creation of the standards and did not face federal pressure to adopt them.
