Police officers joined fathers at 99th Street Elementary School in Los Angeles to read to students as part of a Donuts with Dads event to connect with the community. Community volunteers, such as the officers, were sought because 80% of the school's students don't have fathers living at home. "Having the men come in is motivating to the students," said third-grade teacher Erica Jones. "To have a dad feel it's important to be here and read translates the same message to the child."
