Zoo's polar bear undergoes root canal, eyelid surgery and more

After keepers noticed something wasn't right, the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium's 27-year-old, 922-pound male polar bear, named Boris, underwent a root canal, eyelid mass removal and other treatments Saturday. The procedures lasted four hours, and Boris was returned to his zoo home after recovering. Zoo veterinarian Karen Wolf noted that despite his age, Boris is doing well, apart from arthritis and continuing dental issues.
