Mozilla details capabilities of new browser engine

Mozilla and Samsung are teaming up to build a new Web browser engine that takes advantage of the multicore processors in today's smartphones to perform tasks concurrently. The engine, dubbed Servo, will be able to render content, read layout and execute JavaScript as parallel tasks, whereas older browsers performed these tasks sequentially. "There is a constant race to get a little bit faster than the other engines, but often you're working against the architectural constraints imposed on you by the existing code," Mozilla platform engineer Josh Matthews said.
