Safeway's Burd talks labor issues with Dominick's workers

Safeway CEO Steve Burd told more than 1,000 Dominick's workers in Chicago that the chain needs concessions on seniority, pay and benefits if it is to compete with discount retailers. Burd pointed to major concessions made by employees at embattled United Airlines, saying, "[Dominick's employees] don't want that fate for themselves." Separately, Safeway announced it earned a profit of $202.7 million for the quarter ended Jan. 1.
