"World's first sustainable city" planned in China

Arup is in a deal with the Shanghai Industrial Investment Corporation to develop what's being called the world's first sustainable city in the unlikely setting of China, where environmental stewardship is considered lacking. The city, called Dongtan and located near Shanghai, would be on a site three-quarters the size of Manhattan and is expected to see its first phase completed by 2010.
