Virginia may abandon NCLB

If the federal government refuses to grant the state's wavier requests, Virginia's board of education should plan a withdrawal from the federal law by July 2009, according to legislation approved by the state's House of Delegates. Virginia's Senate has passed similar legislation, albeit without a deadline. Withdrawing from NCLB could cost the state in excess of $350 million per year in federal aid, according to this article.
