M&A wave strikes charities

The recession is inhibiting corporate M&A but inspiring a new wave of consolidations in the nonprofit world. A recent survey of nonprofits found that 20% expect a merger will feature in their survival strategy. "If you can figure out a way to preserve people's missions and their brand, there's really efficiencies in coming together," says Fred Chaffee, CEO of the Arizona's Children Association, which has absorbed six other organizations.
