Report: Texas sex education is "shockingly poor"

The abstinence-only sex education taught in most Texas districts is producing "sexually illiterate" teens and isn't helping reduce the state's high teen pregnancy rates, according to researchers at Texas State University who were sponsored by a group that supports more comprehensive sex education. "Our classrooms are perpetuating a conspiracy of silence that robs young people of the reliable information they need to make responsible life decisions," said David Wiley, a health-education professor and president of the American School Health Association.
