Apple hints of new horizons for iPhone software

Recent developments strongly suggest that Apple intends to expand its iPhone operating system to other devices, according to a published report that notes the company has placed a want ad for an engineer "to lead a team focused on bring-up of iPhone OS [operating system] on new platforms." A few days later, Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook termed Apple "a mobile-device company." Also, developers said Apple -- which holds its annual meeting today -- might add an "explicit" category to its App Store.
