Mississippi levees get Army Corps' 100-year flood certification

The Pearl River levees in Mississippi's Hinds and Rankin counties received certification from the Army Corps of Engineers for meeting the federal standards for 100-year flood protection. Officials caution that the levees do not totally eliminate the risk of flooding in the area, however, and are recommending the levees be extended by 21.9 miles.
