Asphalt roads could be a solar-energy resource

A team of researchers from the University of Rhode Island, University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, and Brown University are working on ideas for harvesting heat from asphalt roads. The simplest ideas involve incorporating existing solar-panel technology into roads. One idea involves adding a pipeline under the roads to carry heat-absorbent liquid. Another involves putting semiconductors in hot and cold spots and using the temperature difference to create an electrical charge.
