Gamification becomes popular wellness strategy

Discovery Communications and Capital One are among the Washington, D.C.-area employers using gamification or corporate challenges as a wellness strategy. Discovery's latest 16-week competition drew 369 teams with almost 2,600 employees, who each lost an average of 8 pounds. A third of Capital One employees globally competed in its team-based, eight-week challenge last year, logging 7.8 million minutes of exercise and losing an average of 7 pounds each.
