Dependence due to advanced organ failure

Which type of advanced organ failure will cause more care dependency in one year? This Netherlands study followed 105 COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), 80 CHF (congestive heart failure), and 80 CRF (chronic renal failure) at home at baseline, four, eight and 12 months. COPD and CHF patients had more baseline care dependency, but those with COPD were at risk for greater care dependency at one year. There's a real need for regular assessment of dependency levels in these patients. (Free abstract only.)
