Moncrief Oil takes on Gazprom in German courts

Moncrief Oil International is pressing its claim to a 40% stake in Russia's Yuzhno-Russkoye gas field by suing Gazprom in German courts. Moncrief insists its contract with Gazprom for the western Siberian field, signed a decade ago, is still valid. The claim, which Gazprom has neither rejected nor accepted, raises questions about contract law, property rights and the treatment of investors in Russia.
