Nebraska city installs convertible sewer system

Faced with an overtaxed wastewater system, Lincoln, Neb., is installing a new "gravi-force" sewer that can convert to a pressurized system as the city grows. To save money, engineers designed new sewer mains to work on gravity until 2024, based on current growth patterns. Then, when Lincoln outgrows the present system, it can be switched over to a force main without replacing the current pipes.
