Recession prompts carriers to consider IMS boost

Telecom carriers are starting to look more to deploying IP Multimedia System technology in the belief that the converged, IP applications -- such as IPTV over integrated fixed and mobile services -- could generate more revenue in a down economy, according to industry observers and the IMS/NGN Forum, a group that champions IMS development. They point to AT&T and Verizon Communications as service providers who are deploying or studying IMS as a way to more efficiently port video content across wireless and fixed-line networks.
