AAFP weighs in on chronic disease care at clinics

The American Academy of Family Physicians changed its position on retail clinics and now opposes allowing practitioners to diagnose, treat and manage patients with chronic conditions. AAFP President Lori Heim said retail clinics that provide disease management services fragment the health care system and work against the medical home concept.
