Banks wait for regulators to relax on small-business lending

Federal regulators said they are making a concerted effort to take a more relaxed view of banks' underwriting of small-business loans. Banks, meanwhile, are waiting to see whether that attitude filters down to local regulators. "We certainly are hopeful that those statements will come to fruition with the examiners in the field," said Bob Epling, president of Community Bank of Florida. "As of right now, it is a statement, and we haven't seen the end result, which would be the action."
