Dog's torn ligament needs surgical correction

Surgery is recommended for cranial cruciate ligament rupture in dogs, writes veterinarian Gary Thompson, who responds to a questioning owner whose dog likely ruptured both crucial ligaments. Without surgical correction, the mechanics of a dog's knee don't allow for healing, and the dog develops pain and arthritis and often ends up rupturing the ligament in the other knee.
