HealthPrize Technologies' mobile application and Web-based software solution that combines rewards, psychology and health gaming appears to be gaining popularity, evidenced by the $2 million equity funding it recently secured. The app, introduced in 2010, allows users to exchange the points they earn from refilling prescriptions, tracking medications and taking educational quizzes for prizes such as general merchandise, electronic products and gift cards. It banks on the idea that the brain prefers being rewarded instantly rather than receiving long-term benefits such as better health.
