Overweight, obese children may miss more school days, study finds

The odds of missing two or more school days a month were double for overweight children and quadruple for obese children compared with children of normal weight, according to a study in the International Journal of Obesity. The findings failed to explain the link between absenteeism and excess weight in children, but researchers said that missed school days could indicate parents' mental illness or socioeconomic status.
