R.I. lawmaker seeks to establish African-American history curriculum

A Rhode Island lawmaker is proposing a commission be established to develop a comprehensive African-American history curriculum for Rhode Island public schools. State Rep. Joseph S. Almeida said the motivation for the proposal is to ensure that African-American history is not only studied once a year -- during Black History Month in February. If approved, the commission would draft a curriculum that includes the history of Africans in the state.
