Alternative Training Program Gives Teachers Classroom Skills

Shady Hill's Teacher Training Course emphasizes on-the-job learning under intense supervision from experienced teachers. Located in Cambridge, Mass., the program accepts college graduates who didn't major in education. Advocates have said the Shady Hill model could be a viable substitute for graduate training, which often costs much more. The program enrolls 18 apprentice teachers for a period of one full school year.
