South Carolina moving on workers' comp reforms

South Carolina's House Business and Commerce subcommittee has approved a bill that industry representatives say could help right the state's sinking workers' compensation insurance system. "This is a positive first step, but we will continue to urge lawmakers to reinstitute an immediate repeal of the Second Injury Fund," said Robert Herlong, vice president and regional manager for PCI. "The fund adds unnecessary costs to the workers' compensation system and the fluctuating nature of the assessments adds a high degree of unpredictability that is detrimental to businesses and insurers."
