Lawmakers urge companies to step up food-safety efforts

Several food-company executives on Tuesday presented before the U.S. House Energy and Commerce subcommittee measures they have taken to upgrade food-safety standards at their facilities. Lawmakers said food companies need to improve conditions and intensify efforts to avert future recalls and prevent the entry of contaminated or unsafe products in the market.
